Kristen & Michael | September 10, 2016

Kristen & Michael’s wedding day was a prime example of the fact that you just never know what could happen on your big day. Your zipper might break and you might have to be sewn into your wedding dress. It also might be pouring rain almost all day long! These mishaps taught us a lot about the character of Kristen & Michael. They could have let their wedding day be ruined by being upset that it wasn’t all going to plan, but they powered through knowing that at the end of the day, they would be husband and wife. No rain or broken zippers could take that away from them. They, along with their family and friends, were some of the kindest people we have had the pleasure of working with. We have never seen a group of bridesmaids step up as much as Kristen’s did. They kept her laughing through the mishaps and weren’t about to let her have a bad day! Shout out to the bridesmaids for being especially awesome!

All of the stress melted away once Kristen & Michael saw each other for the first time, which they decided to do before the ceremony in a very unique fashion; with balloons! Michael held a bouquet of big balloons in front of his face, released them once he was ready, and was all shock and smiles. It was very cute!

Thankfully once we arrived at Lake Lyndsay for their reception, the skies cleared and we were left with a gorgeous backdrop of sunset and clouds! We made up for lost time due to the rain and everything turned out perfectly. We are so grateful to Kristen & Michael for choosing us to play a small part in their big day. Congrats again Mr. & Mrs. Mees!

Crossroads Community Church Weddings | Tierra & Josh {April 8, 2016}

We know that we are wayyyyy behind on blogging this spring! So we are SO sorry that we are  just now getting around to posting about our good friends Tierra and Josh.  But better late than never, right?! 😉

We first met Josh a few years back in our small group at The 86 Club in Clifton. After “swiping right” Tierra and Josh met which we are very selfishly happy about it.  Simply due to the fact that we then got to know Tierra!  Fast forward to summer of 2015 and I (Tammi) and Tierra became workout buddies at CoreStrong in Covington, Ky. But enough about how we know these two!

Tierra and Josh are two of the funniest, kindest, and most laid back people around. Which made being a part of shooting their wedding and engagement photos so easy and so much fun.  Their wedding took place at Crossroads Church in Oakley on a unfortunately rainy day.  However, while some people might get upset about rain on their wedding day, they rolled with the punches and we stepped inside to shoot most of their photos inside of Crossroads with the exception of a few minutes when the rain stopped, allowing us to snap a couple outside.

Their wedding was very Christ centered, which we very much loved and appreciated.  At one point during the ceremony, their bridal party surrounded them and prayed over them.  Once they were pronounced husband and wife, kissed, and started walking down the aisle, the party started!  Choosing to do just a small cake reception for everyone invited and a small dinner for their family, we think they hit the nail on the head of what a wedding should be about.  Not about extravagance or over the top planning, but about Christ, love, and family.  And we are so happy to have played a small role in it!

Congratulations Tierra & Josh! We can’t wait to see what life has in store for you!

The Madison Event Center | Erica & Cooper {9.26.15}

The Madison Event Center

What a day this was! If you were there, you would know. It was perfect from beginning to end. Honestly and truly we wouldn’t have changed a thing. Let’s just get started here shall we? :)

We first met up with Erica & her bridesmaids and Cooper & his groomsmen who were busy getting ready. Tammi with Erica obviously, and Rudy with Cooper. Everyone was in good spirits and were anxious to get started! First up were the boys. The boys were whisked away by the limo to Riverside Drive in Covington KY, right after a brief stop for some beverages…if you know what we mean. Anyway, we headed off to Riverside and started shooting photos of the guys right away while the limo went to get the girls from The Madison Event Center. Once they arrived, it was time for Erica & Cooper’s first look.

We made everyone go away as we typically do as to make it a more private affair. Then once we were ready told Cooper to turn around. He turned, saw his beautiful bride with the biggest smile on her face, and quickly walked to embrace her. Apparently Erica had Cooper convinced that she had a colored dressed rather than a white one which we REALLY want to know more about. How did she do it? What color did he think it was going to be? So on and so forth. After a few photos of just these two, it was time for their bridal party.

A decent sized group, 8 on each side with some little ones sprinkled in, they were a blast to work with. The boys were attentive without being stiff, and the girls were as sweet as can be. After all of their photos at Riverside Drive including the family photos, it was time to get these two hitched. We first went to the reception area to shoot a few details of the room and found their cake maker, The Mischief Maker, assembling their wedding cake. It was unbelievable and without a doubt the best cake we had ever seen. It was huge! But what was most shocking were the flowers running up the side of the cake along with some butterflies. The flowers and butterflies were made of sugar. Yes, sugar! The entire cake including decorations was edible. *Applause*

Their ceremony was very simple and sweet. Rather than walking ahead of Erica & her father, they chose to have the flower girls and ring bearer carry Erica’s train down the aisle. Well, we should say the flower girls and ringer bearer told Erica that that was what they were going to do. Being a sweet and go with the flow kind of woman, she thought it was adorable. After they kissed and headed back down the aisle, all that anyone could hear was Erica’s laugh. Now Erica’s laugh is completely unique. We have never ever heard a laugh like hers, and we absolutely love it. Apparently it is well known and well talked about within the family too, as her sister and maid of honor referenced it in her speech at the reception. Also during the reception, the locally famous Bill Cunningham of 700 WLW announced everyone into the reception. He is a friend of the family and did a great job; even giving a great speech of his!

It was a blast at the reception especially thanks to one of the best wedding bands in the city, Air Wave. Book them, seriously, they are good.

Anyway, it was a wonderful day with a wonderful couple and we are so thankful that we were a part of it!

Nature Engagement Photos | Sarah & Brian

Nature Engagement Photos

Rescheduling sessions is one of the worst things about our jobs. We absolutely hate it when we have to reschedule sessions due to weather. But unforatunately sometimes it’s a must. Like as is the case for Sarah & Brian’s originally scheduled engagement photos date. It was pouring rain outside a few weeks ago and since they were to be traveling from Columbus, we didn’t want them to drive all the way down for it to be raining. So we rescheduled and in the forecast is called for rain again! GAH! Luckily as the forecast progressed, it turned out that we were in the clear rain wise and that actually they would have some beautiful light for their photos.

Sarah, after seeing some images of engagement photos in fields including on our site, found a perfect spot for the session. We are going to keep this one a secret though as it was quite a great location that not many people know about! 😉 Let’s just say it’s a park outside of downtown Cincinnati. Since it was going to be fully overcasted we knew we had to get right to work since it would get dark much sooner than it typically would this time of the year.

Sarah & Brian make quite the beautiful couple and were a breeze to photograph. Only one time was there a snag in the pose though. We had them sit down on the ground (on something we bring with us to every single session for a variety of reasons; sitting on the ground being one of them) when all of a sudden a HUGE spider decided to join them. We lept into action, apologized to said spider, and…handled the situation.

Anyway, it was a very easy going session and we can’t wait for their big day in just a few short weeks!

There aren’t many things that can make us as happy as when we photograph a beautiful couple’s engagement photos at a wonderful location with gorgeous light. Well actually, yes there is one more thing that can make us happy in that equation; a perfect temperature. That is what we experienced last week with Kristen & Michael. We actually had to postpone their engagement session once due to it being SO very hot on the original date. We left it up to them if they wanted to postpone which wisely they chose to. So when we showed up to Riverside Drive in Covington, KY with a nice warm temperature, we got right to work.

Did we mention they are beautiful? We think their photos speak that and so much more. They interact with each other so well and are so very photogenic. Their friends probably hate that about them. We kind of do. 😉 But in all seriousness, they are incredibly cute together and are a joy to photograph. At one point, we realized that we get to do this again when they look EVEN BETTER on their wedding day and said out loud, “We are so happy we get to shoot your wedding photos!”

Oh! One last thing, we love dogs but can’t have one due to our apartment’s rules. So we were overjoyed to find that they brought their dog “Yogi” with them for a few pics with him. It was super cute and well behaved. When they told him to stay, he basically did!

We just can’t tell you how much we love these pictures and how much we are looking forward to their big day!

Northern Kentucky Wedding Photography | Ashley & BJ {9.18.15}

Northern Kentucky Wedding Photography

It seems we have become the unofficial/official wedding photographers for Christ’s Chapel Assembly of God in Erlanger, Kentucky. It’s probably because they just love us. It could also be because that’s our church….No. That can’t be it. It’s because they all love us. Yep. :) Truth be told we love our church and everyone in it. And we are so happy and thankful that we are able to be the photographers for quite a few couples within the church. So when Ashley & BJ asked us to be their wedding photographers, we of course said yes. If for no other reason than for it to not be awkward on Sunday mornings. 😉

Everything as it turned out was held at our church, which is totally great with us. Not only does it have a big sanctuary that is easy to maneuver in, but it has some excellent places to shoot right around the grounds of the church and even inside. We took full advantage of everywhere we could within the church. We first met up with Ashley and her bridesmaids for a few shots of them all getting ready for the day. Ashley dressed her son and daughter and of course we couldn’t help but snap some cute photos of her doing so. BJ and his groomsmen arrived right on time and ready to go. We knew a few of the groomsmen, which made our lives for the day very easy. Oh! We also knew a couple bridesmaids too, and even figured out that before we actually knew Ashley, she was the maid of honor at one of our past weddings! Megan, a bride of ours from a few years back, turned out to be best friends with Ashley. Such a small world isn’t it?!

We set up for the first look once everyone was ready. We set Ashley & BJ about 10 feet apart from one another and had BJ simply turn around. Once he saw his soon to be wife standing there in all her beauty, he just smiled big and couldn’t believe his eyes. After that beautiful moment the photos were easy. Well mostly. We did have to battle with the bugs that found Ashley’s beautiful dress to be quite attractive to their little bug hearts. They just kept on getting underneath some of the tulle of her dress. It’s fairly common for this to happen. So any future brides out there, take note. It might happen, but it’s totally okay. Ashley handled it like a trooper!

The ceremony was simple and beautiful. At the end of the ceremony but before they walked out of the sanctuary, the Senior Pastor of Christ’s Chapel, Terry, blessed the family and the children. After the blessing, they all left as a new united family together and headed off to the reception which was just held outside underneath a picnic shelter on Christ’s Chapel’s campus. Very convenient. There were many highlights to the reception but our two favorite had to have been BJ’s dance with his mother where they had a choreographed routine to a Beach Boy’s song, and the catering. One of our favorite restaurants catered the reception. If you haven’t had Mac N’ Cheese from Keystone, you haven’t lived! It’s delicious.

Congratulations to Ashley & BJ! And thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your big day!

Ault Park Engagement Photos | Monica & David

Ault Park Engagement Photos

Not many things are better in this job than when all the elements to a successful session align. What are the elements you ask? Good weather, beautiful light, pretty location, and most important of all, a cute and fun couple. All 4 of those things aligned for Monica & David’s engagement session in Ault Park. The weather was perfect and so was the light. But they truly made the session fun and wonderful. We merely had to press our shutter buttons. It was quite easy.

After spending a little bit of time at Ault Park where we learned that Monica is a triplet, and that Monica & David met on a blind date (it works!), we headed off to one of their stomping grounds, Hyde Park Square. Hyde Park Square is a beautiful place not only for photos but to shop and eat. This night, however, was mostly dedicated to photos. Once we said, “That should do it!”, Monica asked for one last photo. She asked if she could get a sundae at Graeter’s Ice Cream on the square for us to take pictures of these two eating together. They plan on using these photos to advertise the ice cream bar they are going to have at their wedding next June. We of course said yes and it turned out to be one of the best parts of the session!

We can’t wait to celebrate with Monica, David, and their family & friends next year!

Krohn’s Conservatory Wedding | Erin & Tylor {9.5.15}

Krohn's Conservatory Wedding
For all of our regular readers, you will find that this blog’s contains no pictures of Erin’s bridesmaids or Tylor’s groomsmen. It isn’t that we didn’t like them or anything like that. Rather it’s because Erin & Tylor, like Deena & Jake this past August, chose to not have a bridal party for their Krohn’s Conservatory Wedding. Rather than dealing with the potential political backlash and stress of having a bridal party, they chose to keep their wedding day simple by not having a bridal party at all. This can be beneficial in many ways, but for us it’s a benefit because we get LOTS of time to take pretty pictures of the bride & groom. The truth is, we would love nothing more than 2+ hours with each one of our couples to take lots of beautiful pictures of them. That rarely comes true. Well, it’s never been true except for Erin & Tylor’s wedding day!

We first met up with Erin and her mother at the Cincinnatian Hotel downtown. As soon as we knocked we heard from inside the door, “Please don’t be them! Please don’t be them!” Erin’s day had been running a few minutes behind all day. But we weren’t worried since we had lots of time for their pictures. Erin had her hair and makeup done at ALBA Beauty Studios aka Cincy Bridal Beauty, and she looked wonderful. ALBA always does a great job. As soon as we wrapped up with all of her details, Erin got dressed and away we went to meet up with Tylor, who was already waiting at Devou Park. Erin was a bit worried about him but we told her to relax as we had already been in contact with him and he was doing good.

Once we arrived, we set up the scene for their first look. Erin approached Tylor and tapped him on his shoulder. Tylor turned slowly and started to cry once he saw his beautiful bride. It was very sweet! We love when grooms get emotional when seeing their bride for the first time! After a few quick snaps at the overlook, which just so happened to be where they got engaged, it was off to another area of Devou for some more pictures.

We went all over the city with these two, which is usually not a recommendation of ours. We typically say for our couples to pick one, maybe two, locations to get a lot of photos in and to make sure it’s fun and relaxed. But without a bridal party we had the opportunity to shoot all over! Devou Park, the Roebling Bridge, and all around Eden Park was well within our time constraints so we took full advantage. But before long it was time for these two to tie the knot!

Their wedding was very much a Christ centered ceremony. It was beautiful and the setting inside of Krohn’s was even better! Although it was raining outside, in fact storming, it was beautiful and peaceful inside of the Krohn’s.

All around this day couldn’t have been better. Well, maybe it could have held out on the rain just a bit longer so we could have shot all of the family photos outside. And it definitely could have been a touch cooler than it was, with less humidity. But at the end of the day we got some beautiful photos and these two love birds are now married. Plus, there were cupcakes! Soooo…… :)

Congratulations Erin & Tylor!

The Madison Event Center | Cassie & Steve {8.29.15}

The Madison Event Center

We love our job. We admit that there are parts that aren’t as fun as we would like them to be. Taxes for one, not fun. Shooting in 100 degree weather, also not quite as fun as it could be. But when you have a couple as laid back and as beautiful as Cassie & Steve it’s hard to not enjoy our job. Not only were they a dream to photograph, but their bridal party was a ton of fun and made our job easy too! Even the ceremony at St. John’s United Church of Christ and the reception at The Madison Event Center were both fantastic. We may just retire after this one! (To all our couples in the future, we are just kidding).

Tammi started with the girls at Cassie’s parents’ home in Northern Kentucky. She arrived to find all the girls on the back patio just relaxing before the festivities of the day. But after taking some detail shots of the dress, shoes, and jewelry, it was time for everyone to get ready, especially Cassie! Cassie’s mother helped her into her dress along with Cassie’s maid of honor, Rachel. Both Rachel and Cassie’s mother looked fantastic, but to be quite honest, no one could compete with Cassie this day. BEFORE she was ready she was beautiful but once she was 100% ready, she was stunning! It’s then that Tammi knew that the day was going to be fantastic.

Rudy on the other hand was with the guys at Cassie & Steve’s apartment in Newport. He arrived to find the guys entirely ready except for Steve’s final touches. After only a few pictures and a slight mishap with the party bus (how come GPS’s aren’t always right?!), it was time for the photos in Devou Park. First up were the guys. Steve looked awesome and all of his guys did too. They chose to have them dressed in classic tuxes which are just never out of style in our opinion and always look great! The guys were cooperative and fun and so was Steve. During one of the poses, one of the groomsmen said, “Is this the ‘Flying V?!'” Of course he was right and typically Rudy will tell the guys to “FLY V!”.

The girls soon arrived on the bus and it was time for Cassie & Steve to see each other. Before their first look however, they had notes for one another. Per our suggestion, they stood back to back, exchanged the letters and read them. It was incredibly cute and sweet. Then was the big moment; their first look! They both turned around while holding hands and Steve was stunned! Cassie smiled so big it reached from ear to ear. They hugged, kissed, and were ready to go. Well almost! Steve made Cassie do a spin so he could see the dress which made for a great moment for us. It’s almost like they were in our brains all day long!

After some beautiful photos of these two, stunning photos of Cassie by herself, and some fun and cute shots of the girls, we headed to the overlook for a few last photos. Oh! By the way, we are officially “Hybrid” photographers. Basically, we are shooting with both film and digital now a days. 99% digital but a few film shots with our old Hasselblad camera. The quality and silkiness of film is unmatched by digital so we just love it! So we of course took a few frames of Cassie & Steve with our “Hassy”. Next it was time to head to the church.

The ceremony was absolutely packed! So much so that they ran out of seats. It was no surprise to us that they were popular. If you know them, you know it’s nearly impossible to not like them. They are two of the most friendly and laid back people we have ever met. After a quick 20 minute ceremony proceeded by family pictures (which was incredibly efficient thanks to in large by the families themselves), it was finally party time!

The Madison Event Center is one of those places you can always count on. It’s always consistently good each and every time we have been there. Top that off with one of our favorite DJ services, McFadden Music, and we knew that this night was going to be awesome. And it was. A big highlight of the night, however, was probably what you would call an error. During Rachel’s, Cassie’s Maid of Honor, speech suddenly the wireless mic system started picking up another maid of honor’s speech from downstairs at The Madison. Everyone, including the DJ was in shock! He got on the mic and proclaimed, “I have been doing this 25 years and I have never ever heard of something like this happening.” Rachel handled it well and delivered a great speech from the DJ’s hardwired mic. As soon as she wrapped up he said, “Let’s see if she is still talking.” He turned on that mic again and she was. “Man! That girl doesn’t know when to shut up!” He covered the random error that was no fault of his very well and everyone had a few good laughs.

The day, like we said before, was wonderful. We couldn’t have asked for anything more from their day. We want to wish Cassie & Steve many years of happiness. And hopefully we will get to watch them grow over the years and become friends! We love you guys!

Cincinnati Wedding Photography | Gabrielle & Jeff {8.22.15}

Cincinnati Wedding Photography

Witnessing one of our couples enjoy their wedding day is always pretty special for us. We get to witness their love for one another, their love for their family & friends, and also get to see them at their very best. And although we love being a part of each and every wedding we are so fortunate to be the photographers for, there are some that are really special to us. The wedding of Gabrielle and Jeff is one such wedding. We have watched Gabrielle grow from an energetic tween, to a fun loving teenager, and now finally to a beautiful woman, mother, and wife. Gabrielle is the daughter of Chris & Monica Human. Chris & Monica own The 86 Club in Clifton, a concert venue and coffee bar. We have known the Human family for around 10 years and have been close with them the entire time. Arguably, the Humans are the reason we are even married today! Getting to be a part of their lives is important to us. So being a part of this wedding was very special to us.

We met up with everyone at The 86 Club where everyone was slated to get ready. Gabrielle wasn’t completely ready yet and she already looked amazing! After a few photos of the girls getting ready and a few of the boys, it was time for the first look with Gabrielle’s father, Chris. Chris is an emotional person. At our wedding, he was in the back crying most of the time. So we definitely expected some waterworks from him and Gabrielle, too, as she is also emotional. So we set up the scene, Gabrielle came up behind Chris, tapped him on the shoulder and he just stood there, as if he couldn’t bring himself to turn around. But eventually he did turn around and with him came tears.

Off we went to Burnett Woods, which is where not only the photos were to be shot, but also where Gabrielle & Jeff would tie the knot. The girls were up first. The girls looked beautiful and were a load of fun to work with. Every girl made an ugly/goofy face during their individual photos Gabrielle. Gabrielle herself is kind of gifted when it comes to making ugly faces. But she is more gifted with her natural beauty. Taking photos of her isn’t very hard. Actually, scratch that. It’s incredibly easy. She is basically a model; moving her position after every frame. Basically “working” the camera. It was a breeze.

Up next were the guys, so after the girls left, the boys arrived. In tow was not only a group of fun and handsome groomsmen, but the groom himself along with most definitely the cutest person at the wedding, Silas. Silas is Gabrielle’s son who was very excited that HE was getting married. For real, this kid is so cute he is almost disgusting. He is always fashionable and just hilarious in general. After a few photos of the boys altogether including Gabrielle’s brother, Jonah, it was ceremony time.

The ceremony held in the bandstand within Burnett Woods was unbelievably cute. Chris actually officiated. The talk of the wedding leading up to the ceremony was just how much of a cry fest it would be. But Chris not only cried a minimal amount (nearly none) he did a fantastic job. Gabrielle & Jeff recited their own vows to each other which left only a few dry eyes in the audience. A major highlight for everyone was the exchanging of the rings. Not only did Gabrielle & Jeff exchange rings to each other, but they collectively gave Silas his very own ring too. A ring pop! When he saw what he was getting he turned around with the biggest smile and showed it off to everyone.

After a few family pictures and some bridal party photos, it was time for just Gabrielle & Jeff to take a moment to relax and snap a few quick photos. The light was beautiful and so were our subjects. Again, it was a cake walk shooting these two. But quickly we all hopped in our car and bolted to the reception.

The reception was decorated expertly and was just a ton of fun. It was a reunion of sorts for us, having not seen some of the guests in ages. But it was all a big party led by the every hilarious DJ Jazzy Jimmy (not his real name) and an incredible original performance by Nashville based band Magnolia Sons. Seriously, this band basically rules.  Oh!  By the way, the food catered by Island Fryday’s which is conveniently located next to The 86 Club was delicious!

It was the perfect day with the perfect couple. And we can’t wait to see what their future holds! Congratulations Gabrielle & Jeff!
